Both honors sections audition the week before school starts. Sign-up links are posted here as soon as dates are set — students who don't pass an honors audition are placed in the standard section of the same group.

The audition covers reading and improvisation on a big-band instrument. Make the band without passing honors, and you're placed in Jazz Ensemble.

Every NPHS Band student is encouraged to audition for a state, regional, or county honor ensemble — it's a serious growth opportunity and a standout line on a college application.

Recorded auditions submitted through the SCSBOA site. Mr. Crystal reviews every recording before final submission — don't wait until the deadline.
CBDA · Upload by Oct 30
All-State
Statewide honor ensembles. Recordings go to the CBDA site early so Mr. Crystal has time to review and approve your submission.

The county honor band. Audition materials closely mirror All-State and All-Southern, and students register themselves on the VCHB website.
